Ghella and its contribution to the newly opened Sydney Metro City Line

We are proud to share that ICCIAUS member Ghella contributed to the opening of the Sydney Metro City Line.๐Ÿš‡

Sydney’s new Metro Line was inaugurated today, and Ghella ANZ played a fundamental role in the project, with a total of 30.5 km of mechanical excavations and 6 new stations toward the CBD. Their state-of-the-art technologies are yet another brilliant example of Italian civil engineering expertise.

The Sydney Metro City & Southwest Line impact on mobility, with an estimated 71% increase in peak morning hours trips, makes it one of the most important ongoing projects in New South Wales. The newly expanded metro network provides unrivalled connectivity to Sydneyโ€™s employment, financial and retail districts; unlocks the Barangaroo harbourside precinct by delivering its first railway station and has capacity to move more people across Sydney Harbour in the busiest hour of the peak than the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Harbour Tunnel combined.

The project has also earned several prestigious awards for its sustainability efforts, including “Environment and Sustainability Initiative of the Year” at the 2019 New Civil Engineer (NCE) Tunnelling Festival, “Major Project of the Year” at the 2020 International Tunnelling Association (ITA) Awards, and “Tunnelling Project of the Year” at the NCE Tunnelling Festival 2020. โ™ป
