THE SAILING EVENT THAT CELEBRATES MADE IN ITALY
The Barcolana is much more than a simple regatta; it is a celebration of sailing, of Trieste and its people, becoming every year the meeting point between sporting passion and community spirit. Founded in 1969, today it is one of the maritime events with the greatest participation in the world.
This event reflects the soul of Trieste, a city that has always lived and breathed the sea and that, every year as per tradition, awaits the second weekend of October with enthusiasm. The gulf is transformed into a blue canvas that welcomes over two thousand sails, ready to dominate the waters and capture both the attention of enthusiasts from all over the world and the gazes of the curious.
Once you leave the sea and move onto the mainland, the competitive air gives way to a festive breeze that bids farewell to summer. The capital becomes a place of sharing, where the love of sport and ancient traditions meet. These are the values that pushed Prosecco DOC to explore the link with the Barcolana and with the city that hosts the event.
SAILING ON PROSECCO DOC SHOCKWAVE3, BETWEEN TRADITION AND INNOVATION
Sailing represents a philosophy of life that combines technique, skill and respect for the sea. Originally a means of transport, over the centuries it has also become a symbol of adventure and challenge. Today, this tradition has evolved into an exciting and fascinating sport, capable of attracting both high-level athletes and supporters of all kinds.
Sailing competitions become a testing ground for athletes and an opportunity to showcase the best boat models. Italian boats, such as those sponsored by the Consorzio del Prosecco DOC, are often protagonists of both national and international events, thanks to their innovative designs and some of the most experienced crews.
The Super Maxi 90 Prosecco DOC Shockwave3 perfectly embodies this spirit and conquered the second step of the podium at Barcolana 55 and the first place at the Veneziana in 2023, thanks to an excellent operating group.
Owner Claudio Demartis has confirmed the participation of the Maxi 90 Prosecco DOC also for the current regatta season, which passes from Croatia to Greece. The project, coordinated by Riccardo Bonetti and Mitja Kosmina, sees a team that combines the experience of highly professional sailors with the energy of young international athletes.
Special mention also goes to the Prosecco DOC Maxi On: the event, organized by Demartis, takes place between Pula and Rovinj, and combines the world of sailing with haute cuisine, bringing 7 starred chefs to compete both in the waters of the Adriatic Sea and in the kitchens of the Grand Hotel Brioni in Pula.
Respect for the sea and nature has led Prosecco DOC Shockwave3 to support the “More Miles Less Plastic” initiative. A project, developed by One Ocean Foundation, which combines sport and environmental sustainability with the aim of raising awareness against marine pollution. Every mile traveled by the boat corresponds to the removal of 10 kilos of plastic from the ocean, contributing to a positive impact on the environment.
PROSECCO DOC FLYING DRAGON
Another boat sponsored by Prosecco DOC, that brings with it a charity project: for 7 years now, Prosecco DOC in collaboration with the IYRF of Rotary International has supported this initiative aimed at bringing two Italian paralympic athletes to race on the Isle of White in the United Kingdom and two English parathletes to Barcolana. Over the years, the crew has included Kirsten Pollock, one of the most famous English sailors, both before and after her serious accident, and the Italian parathletes Fabrizio Sollazzo and Davide Di Maria, respectively a paralympian in Rio and a world title winner.
PROSECCO DOC WITH FULL SAIL TO PROMOTE ITALY IN THE WORLD
The Consorzio di Tutela Prosecco DOC is not only a supporter of sailing, but acts as an ambassador of Made in Italy on a global level. Since 2012, the year of the first meeting with the Barcolana, its boats have represented symbols of success and promotion.
The Consorzio’s commitment to sport is evident with its participation in the most prestigious regattas and in the valorization of the fundamental principles promoted by Prosecco DOC: quality, elegance and tradition.
In addition to the regatta, the Prosecco DOC Consortium enlivens the Barcolana Village with a dedicated lounge area, where visitors have the opportunity to taste different labels of Prosecco DOC and Prosecco DOC Rosé.
This space promotes Italian food and wine culture in an international context. These initiatives not only highlight the quality of the product, but strengthen the bond with Trieste, which represents a historical and cultural reference point for this famous sparkling wine that takes its name from Prosecco, a village near the capital of Friuli!
A JOURNEY WITH PROSECCO DOC BETWEEN SAILING, TERRITORY AND TRADITION
The world of sailing and Prosecco DOC form an ideal couple that tells a story of sport, passion and connection with the territory.
Each regatta turns into a celebration of Italian identity, offering a showcase for the talent and excellence of our country. This combination of team spirit and love for the sea also gives the Barcolana a unique charm, capable of attracting sailors and spectators, promoting Made in Italy.
With sailing as the protagonist, Trieste becomes the perfect stage to tell stories of success, challenges and triumphs… perhaps accompanied by a nice glass of Prosecco DOC!
